ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Full House Resorts has proposed building a racino near Clovis.

The racino, which would be called La Posada Del Llano, would include a racetrack, casino, hotel, 18-hole golf course and water park on 520 acres just east of Clovis.

The developer also wants to create a moving grandstand, which would follow the horses as they raced around the track.

Full House Resorts CEO Dan Lee said they submitted their proposal to the state's Racing Commission to become New Mexico's sixth racino.

The General Manager of the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino previously told KOB 4 that he doesn't think New Mexico can support six racetracks.

“The problem with that is that there’s already five tracks in the state and those five tracks are already at max capacity. We already overlap race dates. We have too few horses as it is to support those five racetracks, said GM Jeff True.

But Lee says competition is healthy.

"I think competition is good. It forces people to step up their game. (The) best example of that is Las Vegas where you have all the big hotels that compete with each other," he said.

KOB reached out to the Racing Commission to see what the next steps are in selecting what company gets the state's sixth license. KOB has not heard back yet.
