SAN JUAN COUNTY, COLO. – Purgatory Resort is opening a mountain coaster Saturday.

At almost 4,000 feet in length, it’s the only mountain coaster in the southwest.

Officials said it can go up to 25 miles per hour.

"The mountain coaster is really another way to experience the mountain in the winter time and summer," said Kim Oyler, Purgatory Resort spokesperson.

There are brake controls in every car, allowing the rider to control just how fast they go.

"You can ride with your child,” Oyler said

Children as young as three years old can ride the coaster.
