ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A Rio Arriba county commissioner has been indicted on corruption charges.

Barney Trujillo has been formally charged with three felony counts of Unlawful Interest in a Public Contract and one felony count of Campaign Contribution Disclosure and Prohibition.

KOB was there when officials raided Trujillo's compound in Chimayo in January of last year. Controversy surrounded the commissioner amid his alleged involvement in the Española school district's corruption and financial mismanagement scandal.

“Public school funds should be used on the needs of students,” said Attorney General Hector Balderas. “I will continue to bring charges against candidates and officials who fail to serve our communities by pursuing or failing to disclose improper financial interests.”

A date for Trujillo's arraignment has not yet been set.
