Officers say 52-year-old Robert J. Romero was shot and killed during a fight with a suspect outside of his home on the 2300 block of Las Casitas. The suspect fled the scene.

Police responded to reports of a suspicious person looking in the windows of a home on the 1000 block of Valerie Circle on the same night that Romero was killed.

"The individual was looking in the front side of the house and the back side of the house, so we put out information yesterday just asking members of the public go let us know if there's any suspicious activity. we don't know if it's connected," said Santa Fe Deputy Chief Ben Valdez.

That man is believed to be 25 to 35 years old, 5 foot 5 inches tall, with a bald or shaved head. Witnesses say he was wearing jeans and a white muscle shirt. He also apparently had a tattoo that was visible on his back.

Police say it's not clear whether that man was involved in the shooting, but they are looking at all possibilities.

Police are stepping up patrols in the area where Romero was killed. They plan on doing so through the end of the week.
