Roswell attractions begin to reopen as vaccination rates increase

ROSWELL, N.M. – Summer fun is within reach, which is a lot different from what people were saying a year ago.

With fewer restrictions and climbing vaccination rates, some Roswell attractions are starting to reopen—some with extended hours.

Juanita Jennings, with city of Roswell public relations, said the summer fun is here.

“As we are in the reopening phase across the state, we too here in Roswell are starting to see a little bit more re-opening opportunities and services for our community members,” she said.

People can finally check out the aquatic center, and the brand new outdoor pool will also get some action.

“It’s been closed for over a year due to COVID of course, so we’re just really excited to be able to open our new facility. It only had one summer being open. It’s a brand new facility, so this will be our second season I believe,” Jennings said.

The Roswell Museum & Art Center is also gearing up with extended hours. It was closed for almost eight months last year, which is time they used for museum improvements.

Aubrey Hobart, curator of the Roswell Museum & Art Center, said it was time well spent, but they’re looking forward to visitors again.

“So we used that time really productively, but we’re very glad to be open again and seeing the public and getting our visitors in the door to see our brand new exhibits” she said.

The museum will also now be open seven days a week starting in June.

People who are worried about art not being for the whole family will have the chance to see interactive art pieces like pinball machines, which will be featured in their newest exhibit by William Goodman. That retrospective exhibit for Goodman is set to open June 12.
