ROSWELL, N.M.- A Church in Roswell is dealing with the aftermath of a fire that caused severe damage.

The fire at La Gracia de Jesucristo occurred on the night of Oct. 31.

“It’s disheartening. There was struggle within us, trying to be like, 'Man, how can this happen,'” said Jacob Molinet, who is the younger son of Senior Pastor Munoz.

He was in complete shock when he learned of the fire at their church. Molinet was at work when he got the text from his brother about the devastating news. Fire erupted through the church building, and Roswell Fire Fighter crews rushed to the scene to put it out.

Since the fire, they have not been able to hold church services.

“The last service we had was the Sunday before the incident. We haven’t been fully able to meet. We have been doing prayer meetings at members’ homes,” said Jonathan Munoz, who is the assistant pastor and older son of Pastor Munoz.

The family has faced a lot of trauma. Their father and senior pastor, Catarino Munoz, is battling stage 4 lung cancer. He also had his eighth brain tumor removed a couple of weeks ago, but even in the midst of it all, they remain strong.

The church building did not have insurance, but they have held a few fundraisers so they can repair the damages. They've also started a GoFundMe page.
