ROSWELL, N.M.- The Roswell Police Department and federal agents are conducting an investigation at a home on the 900 block of North Ohio Avenue.

“Roswell Police Department got a tip of a male subject on the north side of town that was loading weapons, and possibly had explosive devices at his house,” said New Mexico State Police Captain Lance Bateman.

The investigation began Monday after people reported seeing a man placing numerous firearms into a vehicle outside the house.

Officers located the 31-year-old man and secured several firearms from the vehicle.

"I'm glad that the police and the authorities were able to apprehend this moron before anything got worse,” Bob Edwards, a neighbor, said.

Roswell Police Chief Phil Smith pointed to the weekend’s tragic mass shootings, and praised Roswell citizens for acting fast when they saw something suspicious.

The man was transported to the Chaves County Detention Center, where he remained Tuesday on federal weapons charges.

Investigators haven’t released the identity of the man yet.

The case is still under investigation.
