Roswell prepares for vice president's visit

October 25, 2018 07:20 PM

ROSWELL, N.M. - The city of Roswell is preparing for a visit from Vice President Mike Pence.

He will campaign for gubernatorial candidate Steve Pearce and congressional candidate Yvette Herrell Friday.

Pence is no stranger to Roswell, he campaigned in the city two years ago.

"We're even more excited now that he's our vice president," said Caleb Grant,  chairman of the Republican Party in Chaves County.

Democrats are also taking notice of the high-profile visit. Michael A. Trujillo, who is running to be on the Chavez County Commission, said he would like to see his party bring in a high-profile personality to build excitement.

"We would use that motivation, too if we had that kind of big guns coming into Roswell, and I think that's their strategy," Trujillo said.

The Roswell Police Department, along with the Roswell Fire Department are working with event security to make sure everyone stays safe.

People who want to attend the rally must have a ticket. They can register for the event by following this link.
