AZTEC, N.M. – The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is looking to hire deputies.

Applicants are required to pass a physical and written exam.

"There is a background check and a psychological interview and if they find out during the psych, that you are crazy enough to be a cop, we'll accept you," Sgt. Dave McCall with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

There are also non-mandatory activities that applicants can take part in as well, such as being tased.

This week, the office posted a video of a few of their cadets enduring the pain of a taser.

For people, considering applying for a position in law enforcement Sgt. McCall has some advice:

“Come out and show us who you are. You know, we are looking for real people. We’ve got people from all walks of life here. Different nationalities. There is no perfect candidate. We just want someone that is going to come out and be themselves and want to get involved in community service,” McCall said.
