FARMINGTON, N.M. — San Juan County Regional Medical Center celebrated milestone after discharging its 500th COVID-19 patient in October.
Back in July, SJRMC celebrated its 300th discharge. By the end of that month, the number had grown to 400.
"It's a celebration of life, it's a celebration of success when the pandemic has been so overwhelming and the devastation that it's had on families and truly our community, right,” said Suzanne Smith, chief nursing officer.
Smith said the pandemic has overwhelmed caregivers. One of her main duties is making sure nursing staff have everything they need, like PPE, to carry out their job safely.
"The paying attention to the detail that keeps the staff safe and able to perform their functions, their job in a safe manner, is really the thing that keeps me up at night. It keeps me up at night,” Smith said.
To further celebrate this milestone, SJRMC officials said they’re planning to do a flyover salute to honor health care workers.
