SANTA FE, N.M. - St. John's College, in Santa Fe, is bucking the trend of raising tuition.

College president Mark Roosevelt says the school is dropping tuition from $52,000 a year to $35,000 a year.

New Mexico residents will also receive an additional $10,000 discount.

“We don't want our price tag, which we think did get too high, we're regretful of that, to be a barrier for people looking at what we do here, which is pretty incredible,” Roosevelt said.

Philanthropic donations are now funding half of all college operations, according to Roosevelt.

He says two alumni recently awarded the college a $50 million grant.
