ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The Carlsbad area was poised to bring in billions of dollars to New Mexico through the oil and gas industry, then COVID-19 busted the historic oil boom.
Searchlight New Mexico highlights how the pandemic is affecting the Carlsbad community and one of the most crucial industries in the state.
“The coronavirus has hit Carlsbad bad just like it has anywhere else but what’s really surprising is the town itself is doing okay, or at least it seems that way,” said Searchlight New Mexico reporter Ed Williams. “The ironic thing is New Mexico as a whole has really staked its future on oil and gas but Carlsbad has diversified its economy quite a bit.”
