Southern NM residents jailed for fake marriage scheme

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Two Las Cruces residents have been sentenced for trying to arrange fake marriages in order to achieve legal status for some immigrants.

Yi Lee, 44, will spend six months in prison and another six months on house arrest for the scheme. Meanwhile, 31-year-old Santiago Aveles was sentenced to three years on probation.
