NMSP officer Ray Wilson said investigators identified the deceased as Stanley Vigil, a hunter who's been missing since Nov. 7. Wilson said Vigil had been hunting near Barillas Peak east of Pecos when he disappeared.

The off-duty State Police officer discovered Vigil's body this past Saturday around 2 p.m. about nine miles from where Vigil was last seen.

The Office of the Medical Investigator used dental records to positively identify Vigil. His cause of death is not yet known, but police do not believe foul play was involved.
