HAGERMAN, N.M.—When Saturday’s storm swept through Hagerman, two mobile homes were completely destroyed.

The owner of one home thinks it was hit by a tornado. Her home blew more than 50 feet from where it once stood.

Sonia Uriarte is a mother of four and said that her family was at her sister’s house the night it all happened.

“We didn’t notice all the disaster that had happened until the next day, in the morning, when we took a look, and we saw that we didn’t have anything left,” said Uriarte.

She said the mobile home wasn’t being used yet. They were adding furniture and finishing touches to it for an inspector to decide if it was ready to be used. She said they were planning on moving into the home in two weeks.

She and her family had moved to Hagerman from Utah about a year ago. Uriarte said it took them that long to save up and start building their home, but now they have to start all over again.

“It feels really bad because my children and I were excited to have our own space, but it’s sad seeing everything the way it is,” she said.

She said they didn’t have insurance yet since they were waiting until they moved in. She didn’t think something like that would ever happen.

Sonia's sister lived in the trailer and even had items stolen after the home was destroyed.

Police ha a few words for the thieves.

“You’re pretty much the lowest of low, if you’re gonna steal from a family that just lost everything,” said Rachelle Bateman, Chief of Police for Hagerman.

On Friday, there will be a voluntary cleanup to help the family dispose of the rubble. The chief is asking anyone to bring food and water for the volunteers, but the family is also in need of the same essentials and clothing.

A GoFundMe page was also set up by Bateman to help both families who were most affected by the storm.
