SANTA FE, N.M. – A suspected road rage incident escalated Tuesday when a man fled from deputies and opened fire at one of them, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office says.

SFCSO Public Information Officer Juan Rios said the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Randy Branch remains at large. Deputies issued an arrest warrant for Branch, but they consider him armed and dangerous.

Authorities initially received reports about a red GM Envoy driving recklessly on U.S. Highway 84/285 with the driver allegedly pointing a gun at another motorist.

A deputy tracked the suspect down on the highway and tried to pull him over. Rios said at one point, the suspect reached out the window and shot two rounds at the deputy.

Other deputies joined the pursuit, but Rios said they lost Branch in the La Puebla area.
