AZTEC, N.M. - Thousands of people are expected to attend the memorial services for Aztec High School shooting victims Paco Fernandez and Casey Marquez.
Services for Fernandez will be held at the Pinon Hills Community Church in Farmington at 10 a.m. Friday morning. KOB was sent this statement today, on behalf of the Fernandez family:
“We are extremely thankful and overwhelmed by the love, prayers and support that has been shown by the entire community to our family during this very difficult time. While our son, Paco, has now entered the gates of heaven, the love he had for his family and friends will live on forever. His passion for life was evident in every way -- from spending time with family and friends to cheering on his favorite sports teams. His love was transforming – he had a way of making you want to be a better person. We continue to feel his love, and it’s comforting to know that he will live forever in our hearts. We appreciate the community’s understanding and respect for our wishes by allowing us our private time to mourn and honor our son. “ -- Family of Francisco “Paco” Fernandez, Jr.
A memorial for Casey Marquez is set for Sunday morning at 11 a.m. at the Henderson Fine Arts Center at San Juan College.
Fernandez and Marquez were shot and killed last Thursday just before first period.
Students and parents of Aztec High School are once again invited to the school today from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to reconnect with teachers and staff.
Counselors will be on hand as well as therapy dogs. School will reopen on Monday, starting with an all-school assembly.
