ROSWELL, N.M. -- Parents dropped their kids off at Berrendo Middle School like any other day on Thursday. But some said they decided to keep their children outside the classroom after a shooting threat was made against the school this past Wednesday.

“You can't always believe in rumors, but we do take rumors being serious,” said one woman who has grandchildren at Berrendo.

Berrendo Middle School made headlines back in 2014 after gunfire erupted inside the gym. Many parents feared another shooting might take place against.

In a statement to KOB, the superintendent's office said: "the Roswell Independent School District takes the safety of students and staff very seriously."

While some parents didn't receive an alert about the shooting threat, the Roswell school district officials said they sent out an automated call Wednesday evening. The district also says "no concerns were found."

The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating.
