NORTHERN NEW MEXICO – Over a week after initially sparking in Colfax County, the Ute Park Fire has now engulfed 36,740 acres, according to the latest estimates from officials on Sunday.

The fire – which has shut down U.S. 64 between Eagle Nest and Cimarron – is 77 percent contained. The cause is still being investigated.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued Sunday until 8 p.m., meaning officials are expecting strong winds in the region.

Despite the fire's size, crews have been able to prevent the burning of any homes. However, 14 unoccupied structures at the nearby Philmont Scout Ranch have gone up in flames.

Cimarron State Park is closed but Eagle Nest State Park is open this weekend. Officials are also reminding the public to refrain from flying drones in the area, as it impacts firefighting operations.
