ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Virgin Galactic has yet to begin routine commercial flights beyond our atmosphere from Spaceport America, but the company is already working to expand its operations.

The company announced Friday it has signed an agreement to launch space flights from Italy. Virgin Galactic says Spaceport America – located in southwest New Mexico about 50 miles from Las Cruces – will remain its headquarters.

Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides tweeted the following message after the agreement, which has been in the works since late 2016.
