VP Pence speaks at rally for Republicans in Roswell

October 26, 2018 05:35 PM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Vice President Mike Pence campaigned for New Mexico Republicans in Roswell Friday.

"You all coming out today gives me confidence you all know what's at stake and the role that New Mexico can play in its own future," Pence said.

He was rallying support for gubernatorial candidate Steve Pearce and congressional candidate Yvette Herrell.

Supporters started filling Roswell International Air Center around 11 a.m., in anticipation of Pence’s speech.

The vice president spoke around 2 p.m.

Pence touched on various issues, including border control.

“You send Steve Pearce to the statehouse, you send Yvette Herrell to Congress of the United States of America, we will build that wall, we will secure our borders,” Pearce said.

Michelle Lujan Grisham’s camp called Pence's visit a sign of desperation.

“I think this is a last minute attempt for Donald Trump to try and bail out his buddy, Tea Party Steve Pearce, by bringing Mike Pence to Roswell,” said James Hallinan, the spokesperson for the Democratic candidate for governor.

The Democratic Party here in Chaves County said they will continue to rally their voters by getting out in the community.
