Water main break leaves some people without water in Roswell

ROSWELL, N.M.- Roswell residents say they’ve gone three days with little to no water since Monday.

"We have no notices. There's nothing in the mail. Not even a courtesy or knock on the door to let us know, you know? That would've been nice,” said Ricardo Ortega, a frustrated neighbor.

The city said the cause of Ortega’s water issues is a water main break near Cherry St. and Garden.

"It was a small leak. A contractor was working on it. We were trying to repair it, and a small leak turned into a big leak,” said Roswell’s civil engineer, Ryan Porter.

Unfortunately, the big leak affected water pressure throughout the city.

"Hospitals up on the north side and schools were complaining about lower water pressure,” said Porter. “As far as we know today, a lot of that has been resolved."

However, Ortega and his neighbors on Apple street are still getting the worst of it all.

"We haven't had no water over here. Without water, I can't take a shower. I can't wash dishes. I can't do nothing, no water flow, and it ain't right,” Ortega said. "There's a lot of people over here that need to wash clothes, wash dishes, and they got families they gotta take care of --and they just can't be hanging out like this."

City crews will be working all night and over the weekend on Apple Street. The city says water pressure is expected to be back to normal by next week.
