ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The City of Farmington has turned off intake pumps from the Animas River to Lake Farmington because of a water spill south of Durango.

Produced water is a byproduct of oil and gas production, which could have petroleum in it.

San Juan County officials say the spill happened sometime over the weekend. However, they say the produced water reached the Animas River Monday.
