The lightning-sparked fire south of Gillespie Mountain – 40 miles south of Animas – began on April 22. It's on private, state and BLM land, and no structures are threatened.

Meanwhile, the 42-acre Chicoma Fire burning near Española is now 80 percent contained. Firefighters say they're working on mopping up hot spots.People in Española could continue to see a lot of smoke in the air. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Officials with the Santa Fe National Forest say a drone flying in the area impacted firefighting efforts. Crews were forced to suspend drops from an air tanker as a result.

"Drones over fires risk firefighter safety, interrupt our air operations, and compromise our ability to suppress wildfires," Forest Supervisor James Melonas said.

Elsewhere in New Mexico, the Gila National Forest is under Stage 1 fire restrictions.
