Judge sentences suspect for mistaken ID gas station murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A judge on Tuesday sentenced one of the five suspects involved in the deadly shooting of an innocent woman at a gas station.
Adam Sedillo will spend 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty to first-degree murder at the end of July last year. Sedillo and two others fired at an SUV at a Maverik gas station in March 2022. They hit and killed Kayla Montaño in what investigators described as a case of mistaken identity.
Sedillo and the other suspects were teenagers at the time of the shooting.
Under a plea deal, Sedillo faced 10 years behind bars. The sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 17, 2024, until the court ordered a presentence report in the case.
The sentencing took place Tuesday in front of Judge Courtney Weaks.
