Calm start to the week before next winter storm arrives

Calm skies but cold temperatures will be present in New Mexico to start the week, but the next winter storm will bring snow to parts of the state by Wednesday night.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Clearer skies areawide Sunday with slightly warmer temperatures across eastern areas, but still around 10 degrees below normal.

Breezy across southwest areas Monday ahead of a storm over Southern California. Slim chance for some light rain and snow showers near the Four Corners area Tuesday as the storm drifts east into Arizona.

Valley rain and higher elevation snow ramps up in coverage and intensity Wednesday as the storm
approaches the state. Coverage of rain and mainly snow peaks Thursday as the storm moves into the state with lingering snow across central and eastern areas on the backside of the storm as it
slowly exits east on Friday.

The highest snowfall amounts will favor the mountain ranges and east slopes of the central mountain chain.

Potentially strong east canyon winds across the Albuquerque metro Wednesday into mid Thursday will limit snowfall amounts in town. Individuals with outdoor or travel plans during the Wednesday through Friday period should highly consider alternative plans and monitor the latest forecast updates.
