New Albuquerque food truck park sets sights on expansion

Albuquerque food truck park set to expand a month after opening

The owner of Nuevo Atrisco Food Truck Park said he has been cooking for around the last 10 days and is expanding his food truck park after only a month of being open.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A month after opening at Central and Unser in Albuquerque, a food truck park is already looking to expand.

Nuevo Atrisco Food Truck Park features eight different food trucks that serve up BBQ, desserts and even street tacos. Owner Joe Lujan wants to bring families together and offer more food opportunities in an area that really needs them.

Already, Lujan says they’re seeing success.

“What’s been really cool out here is almost all of the customers we’ve been getting, even in just the month we’ve been open, we’re seeing over and over again, so we know that they like it. We just need to get more people our here to try it,” Lujan said.

Lujan has been cooking and making food for the last 10 years. He says working in the kitchen just came natural.

“My family owns a ranch in the Pecos. They had been doing teen building programs and stuff out there. And I started out catering out there almost just kind of by accident,” he said.

Now as the owner of the park, Lujan is excited to bring something new to the part of Albuquerque they’re in.

“Compared to other stuff in the area, there’s not a lot of places for people to eat and drink and sit inside for a long time. There’s a lot of fast food stuff going up, up the street and everything, but it’s not a spot [where] you can hang with your family,” he said.

If there is one thing people must try, Lujan has a recommendation.

“Our BBQ spot will be one of the better ones in town. We have some good ones, so that’s a tall order. But the way we’re smoking out meats over here, it’s a different kind of food truck,” he recommended.

In the near future, Lujan said you can expect some new things at the park.

“I have some other projects going on right now in the food park arena. Those are coming soon,” he said.

Lujan said they obtained their liquor license last week. Once that is set up and they start serving alcohol, they are going to expand their hours.
