New Mexico firefighters return after deployment to California
According to AFR, crews learned a lot that will help all firefighters in New Mexico fight wildfires in our state.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After battling fires in California in two weeks, a group of firefighters from New Mexico are back home.
According to Albuquerque Fire Rescue, crews protected homes, dealt with hotspots and helped residents find resources. AFR crews worked with crews from Bernalillo, San Juan and Los Alamos counties and the City of Santa Fe, whose wildland superintendent led four of the five engines that went to California.
The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security sent the firefighters to California for as long as the Golden State needed them. Now that the AFR firefighters are back, they say the experience will help prevent disasters and better fight fires here in New Mexico.
