New Mexico House Republican resigns ahead of session
SANTA FE, N.M. — A Republican state lawmaker announced Saturday he will resign from the New Mexico House of Representatives due to health issues.
New Mexico House Republicans announced the departure of state Rep. Jared Hembree, who represents Chaves County, due to “unforeseen health-related circumstances that require immediate attention.”
“It is with a heavy heart that I step down from the State Legislature,” Rep. Hembree said. “Serving the people of my district has been a profound honor. My family and I believe in Chaves County, and we must prioritize my health to ensure we can serve in good faith in the future.”
There is no word on who will take over his seat.
The regular 60-day session of the New Mexico Legislature is scheduled to begin Jan. 21 at noon.
