NMSP officer now a finalist for award for saving newborn baby
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A New Mexico State Police officer is now a finalist for an award recognizing him for saving the life of a newborn baby boy in July 2023.
According to New Mexico State Police, Officer Ismael Perez responded to an emergency call about a mother in distress. When they arrived at the hospital, however, the baby wasn’t responsive and was still attached to the umbilical cord.
Perez began life-saving measures until the baby began crying. After tending to the baby, the hospital had good news for the mother – she gave birth to a health baby boy.
Perez is a finalist for the 2025 Axon RISE Award. The award recognizes first responders who go above and beyond in the line of duty. You can vote for Perez here at this link.
They will select a winner later this month.
