ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police are investigating a crash that left one person dead late Wednesday night in northeast Albuquerque.

Police responded to a call about a vehicle hitting a pedestrian on southbound Tramway Boulevard, between Candelaria and Comanche roads. Police said the driver stopped at Tramway and Menaul Boulevard to call 911.

The person struck by the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to detectives, the vehicle was going around 55-60 mph in the far right lane as the person’s back was turned to traffic. Detectives said the driver hit the brakes but the distance was too close to stop or swerve to avoid the incident.
