ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Newly-released video is showing a fight that broke out Friday morning during a hearing in a courtroom in Albuquerque.

The incident happened Friday at around 9:30 a.m. during a hearing for a murder suspect in Judge Cindy Leos’ courtroom. Prosecutors charged Carlos Lucero and Pete Ysasi with allegedly attacking Alexander Segura Ortiz and punching an officer during the fight.

Video shows Lucero running toward Segura Ortiz and punching him before Ysasi joins in. Then, that video shows a corrections officer getting punched when he tried breaking up the fight.

Police detained Lucero and Ysasi. According to police, Lucero said he was outraged at Segura Ortiz for killing his family member, adding it “was worth every moment” to attack Segura Ortiz.

Segura Ortiz is accused of murdering a woman at an Albuquerque apartment complex in January 2024.

Lucero and Ysasi now face charges of battery on an officer and assault on a jail.

According to a criminal complaint, the assault on a jail charge is defined as “any person or group of persons assaulting or attacking any jail, prison or other public building or place of confinement of prisoners held in lawful custody or confinement.”

UPDATE (Feb. 6, 2024): Officers also arrested Jamie Lucero for charges of battery on an officer and unlawful assault on a jail. She will have her first appearance Feb. 27.
