Earlier this year, New Mexico Magazine, New Mexico True and KOB 4 asked for True Hero nominations from the public. The goal was to find and recognize ten individuals helping their communities—and our state-- in exceptional ways.
The ten winners, chosen by a panel of judges, came from small and large communities with their expertise-and efforts-covering a wide range --from healthcare to education, the arts, volunteerism, and more. Here are their stories:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the bravery, compassion, and resilience of our healthcare workers has been phenomenal.
One of those workers is Adam Crosby, unit director for the Department of Dermatology at the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Crosby was nominated as a True Hero for his work developing a community testing site for people with respiratory symptoms. The facility was the only location in New Mexico offering COVID-19 testing to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Crosby worked tirelessly to make sure the facility was safe, clean, and efficient so that staff and patients felt comfortable.
