Earlier this year, New Mexico Magazine, New Mexico True and KOB 4 asked for True Hero nominations from the public. The goal was to find and recognize ten individuals helping their communities—and our state-- in exceptional ways.
The ten winners, chosen by a panel of judges, came from small and large communities with their expertise-and efforts-covering a wide range --from healthcare to education, the arts, volunteerism, and more. Here are their stories:
Dr. Francisco Crespin, former chief medical officer of La Clinica de Familia in Las Cruces delayed his planned retirement to provide medical care to people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He has worked ceaselessly to provide care for the underserved populations in our state, and advocated for improving the lives and working conditions of migrant farmers and their families.
