Earlier this year, New Mexico Magazine, New Mexico True and KOB 4 asked for True Hero nominations from the public.  The goal was to find and recognize ten individuals helping their communities—and our state-- in exceptional ways.

The ten winners, chosen by a panel of judges, came from small and large communities with their expertise-and efforts-covering a wide range --from healthcare to education, the arts, volunteerism, and more.  Here are their stories:

Musical duo Tash Terry and Elena Higgins established the Navajo Nation Black Mountain Relief Fund to provide food and other necessities for 50 families living in a remote area during the coronavirus pandemic.

Terry and Higgins organized the donations through their nonprofit IndigenousWays, which is focused on reaching diverse communities through music and the arts.
