High school baseball: Volcano Vista, Cleveland, St. Pius move on in state playoffs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Baseball teams are competing in the state playoffs.

Carlsbad vs. Volcano Vista

Carlsbad gave the No. 1 seed in 5A, the Volcano Vista Hawks, a scare on Thursday.

The Cavemen took a 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning. 

However, the Hawks came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and eventually win, 11-7.

La Cueva vs. Cleveland

La Cueva will not return to the 5-A title game.

Cleveland beat the Bears 3-1.

La Cueva was attempting to win their third-straight state title.

St. Pius vs. Belen

St. Pius is moving on in the state high school baseball playoffs.

Hayden Walker, who will pitch for Pepperdine, threw a no-hitter against Belen on Thursday.

On top of the great pitching, St. Pius added six runs, for the 6-0 victory.

St. Pius will play the winner of the Albuquerque Academy-Aztec game, which will be played at 10 a.m. Friday at Santa Ana Star Field.
