ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Highland girls basketball team has spent the summer trying to get better and follow the leadership of head coach Lonnie Neal.

The Hornets have a solid core group coming back with a couple of players being scouted by Division 1 schools.

Last season, the Hornets made it to The Pit in the state tournament but had trouble with the bright lights.

"We were a little awestruck of The Pit, I wanted to make sure they got in," Neal said. "We talked about the history, all the things that are going on in The Pit and how awesome it is for us to have it here in our home state."
