ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For the last few days, basketball has taken over the New Mexico Games. Sandia High School has been the home for the girls playing hoops.

"The off-season is really important because all of us get to work on our individual skills and kind of see each other as a cohesive team," said Ashton Armenta from Eldorado High School. "We get to see what we're going to have moving into the season."

There's been plenty of action in the high school varsity tournament with a good mix of teams from all over the state. Plus there are some all-star rosters in the semifinals.

"We really look forward to the New Mexico Games," said Jaelyn Bates from Volcano Vista High School. "This is really one of the bigger ones that we go to."

"There's not that much competition back in Gallup and it's very fun," said Malia Ukestin from Miyamura High School.

All in all, it's a good run for the girls to stay sharp on the court.

"It gets us able to play together with higher level high school teams and just get that chemistry going for the upcoming season," said Rachel Williams from Eldorado High School.
