ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — High school football kicks off in just over a week. Volcano Vista is coming off a deep playoff run.

The Hawks advanced to the state semifinals last year. They may have lost several playmakers, bu a lot of seniors are returning this season.

They have a new quarterback in – Diego Pavia is taking over for Jake Deatherage.

The defense has a lot of experience with eight starters returning.

"We're just trying to create depth, trying to create competition at practice," said head coach Chad Wallin. "Last year we got a little thin, so I think this year, this offseason it's been all about depth and competition."

"We just know that we got to bounce back," said player Brandon Padilla. "We got a full team of seniors basically, and we're just ready to go, ready to prove what we've got. Camp has been intense, like we've just been putting in work and working hard and trying to show everybody what we got."
