ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Highland girl's basketball team is coming off one of their best seasons in program history.

The Hornets made it all the way to the state semifinals last year.

San Diego State commit Cailee Crawford leads a talented group returning for another run at state.

The team has done as much training as they can under the state guidelines and are remaining patient through the pandemic.

"Because I have a veteran team the one thing we may not have to worry about is re-teaching plays and re-teaching sets and terminology," said head coach Lonnie Neal.

"I think one of the things we want to improve on as a team is going out every game with a confidence that we're the best team in state and personally I just want to improve on defense this year that's what I've really discussed with a lot of my coaches. That's one of the thing they really wanna see me work on, so if I can be defensive player of the year that would really be a goal that I can check off," Crawford said.

ESPN ranked Crawford among the top 100 recruits in the nation.
