ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Hope Christian football team made big improvements in 2018.

The Huskies finished the season with 11 wins and one loss.

“It's a great accomplishment— having one loss,” Jared Knowles said. “And this year, we are ready to face whatever it takes whether it's one loss two losses or no losses, were excited to play this season."

The players are also working hard in the classroom.

Before practice, the team has study hall. It’s a tradition that was started last year.

“Bottom line is that football won't last forever and graduating high school is a bigger part of the whole process afterwards,” coach Gary Beck said. “Most these kids aren't going to play college ball, they're not gonna play pro ball in the end, education is going to get them into college."

The players said they are seeing the benefits of study hall.

“We get out of practice later,” Zachary Griego said. “It doesn't give us that much time to do our homework so it's good to have the time before. Last year my grades really improved with all the extra time.”
