ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico Lobo basketball team is planning on running the floor come this summer. Head coach Paul Weir has one more player to add, but the newcomers he has brought in will play major roles.
Saquan singleton is a 6'6" point guard with leadership qualities. Rod Brown played at Wichita State and Weir said he sees him playing at the front of his full court press.
"We're really looking at him as bringing a blue-collar, hard hat energy and work ethic to the top of our press that we haven't had since Sam Logwood. We obviously had to close the deal. We were in a very steep competition with Alabama and some other schools and we had to recruit him really, really hard and Dan McHale thankfully coached actually, his kind of mentor from back in New York," Weir said.
Jeremiah Francis is a transfer from North Carolina and Weir is hoping to get a waiver from the NCAA so he can come play in November.
"I'm going to do everything I can and obviously with Jeremiah and his family and other people's health as well, to do everything we can to put our best foot forward with the NCAA in their eyes to allow him to play in the fall," Weir said.
The basketball season opens on Nov. 11
