ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Luke Wysong is quite the athlete.

The 2021 Player of the Year was part of a state championship football team at Cleveland. He is also a state champion in track & field, winning the 100 meters in record time.

"It was crazy because, I mean, I don’t know, I didn’t even think I could run 10.5 in the 100 but it just kind of happened," he said.

That success was a result of a non-stop work ethic.

When the pandemic was hitting New Mexico the hardest, Wysong got outside to run hills, never losing hope to compete in his senior season.

"I knew that whenever we were going to get to play, I was going to be at the top of my game," he said. "My parents have told me time and time again that I’ve always just been one to like not need like extra motivation, but it’s always been within me, and then I believe within myself."

Following his success in high school, Wysong will play for the Lobos– with family rooting in the stands at University Stadium.

"I want to still be able to see like my grandma and then my mom and my dad and my uncles– everyone like that because all my family is here," he said.
