ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Volcano Vista's defense line is among the best in New Mexico.

Cody Moon is one of four seniors on the defensive line, but he grew up playing mostly offense.

Shortly after starting high school he switched to defense and never looked back.

"He's just so tough to block. He brings a little bit of a fun energy to the defensive line he's always kind of chirping and talking," said Volcano Vista head coach Chad Wallin.

"I like all of the fight that you have to put in to be able to make plays. I played offense and offense is fun but hitting is more fun," Moon said.

Moon's quick hands make him a dangerous defensive end, but when it comes to welding, he knows how to slow down.

Moon is taking welding classes at CNM to earn a degree.

"I didn't really know how all of it worked. I knew I was putting two metals together but that's all I really knew and now knowing all the math and science behind it, it's really cool. I just like the way it looks really after you put a nice weld down it looks pretty cool and I like building things so that's always fun," Cody said.

A master of metal and a force on the line.

Moon hopes to end the season with a state ring to go along with his welding degree.
