ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— La Cueva’s Dominic Camacho is no stranger to kicking under pressure.
Last year, Camacho helped the Bears win a state title.
Friday night, he lined up with something else on the line.
“I was nervous but also excited and ready to get it over with,” Camacho said.
In the Bears win over Las Cruces, Camacho nailed a kick that set the record for most field goals made in New Mexico high school history.
“It means so much, it’s a great opportunity and definitely builds up my confidence and I know it builds up my teammates confidence as well,” Camacho said. “It really makes me proud and I’m really happy to be able to hold that record. Everyone was really, really supportive and congratulated me—all the coaches and my teammates.”
When Camacho broke the record, no one cheered louder than his family.
They made the long drive to Las Cruces to watch him make history.
“He’s just the best big brother I could ever have in my life and he’s just one of the biggest supporters right now for me,” said Dominic’s younger sister, Britain.
“They are always there for me whether I'm feeling down on a day or just not doing what I'm supposed to be doing, they are always there supporting me and helping me to be a better person,” Camacho said.
