ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Santa Fe boys basketball is 12-3 as they head into district play.
The Demons were the 5A State runner-up last year.
“We do have a lot of stuff to work on still, and we are getting better now that it’s getting to the end of the season like our true colors kind of show,” says forward Carlos Dassaro.
Lobo commit JB White is the Demon’s leading scorer. He’s healthy after missing most of the season last year with a knee injury.
“You’ve just got to be there for your teammates," says White. “You know bad pass or whatever you’re good, you’re good, next play, whatever, box out the little things, the extra pass, you know, don’t be selfish.”
“First 15 games of the season we just got to learn from what we’ve done wrong and go into the next game and try not to do the same thing,” added guard Cody Garcia.
The Demons won a share of the district title last season. They'll be a contender in 5-5A again.
"They’ve paved the way in the sense that we expect success now," says head coach Zach Cole. “It’s not talked about, it’s not futuristic, it’s here and it’s now.”
Santa Fe opens up district play on the road with Albuquerque High Wednesday at 7 p.m.
