ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The high school football season began in New Mexico Thursday.

Weather played a role in two of the three games.

La Cueva vs. Volcano Vista

The La Cueva Bears fell to Volcano Vista in a game that was delayed by lightning.

Volcano Vista took the lead in the fourth quarter, minutes before the lightning forced the players off the field.

Once they returned, after 10 p.m., Volcano Vista held off the defending state champions.

Final Score: Volcano Vista 36 La Cueva 25

Eldorado vs. West Mesa

The Eldorado Eagles opened up the season in impressive fashion.

They scored 28 points in the first quarter against West Mesa.

The Mustangs couldn’t come up with an answer. They were shut out.

Final Score: Eldorado 51 West Mesa 0

Valley vs. Albuquerque High

Albuquerque High got off to a 7-0 lead against Valley.

The game would eventually be delayed due to lightning-- with Albuquerque High leading Valley 17-7.

Albuquerque High would eventually secure the win, 17-7.
