ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - At the corner of General Somervell and Domingo, in northeast Albuquerque, people will find more than just a crossing guard.

Joe Mascarenas is described as a public servant.

“Buenos Dias, Nancy,” Mascarenas could be heard saying to a neighbor.

When he puts down the stop sign, his work for the kids does not stop.

“He just set up a box for donations for school supplies for Hawthorne Elementary School,” said Mascarenas’ colleague, Richard Deichsel.

He said the donation box, at a car show Mascarenas organized, brought in $200.

Mascarenas also convinced Walmart to match the $200 donation.

“He bought $400 worth of school supplies and delivered to the school the first day,” Deichsel said.

Watch the video above to see what happened when Deischel decided to Pay it 4ward and give Mascarenas $400.
