ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - On afternoons in Albuquerque, many people do what they can to escape the heat.

But nurses, patients, and workers at the UNM Center for Digestive Disease didn't have that choice on a summer day in June.

A gas leak led to a two-and-a-half-hour evacuation.

“We were frustrated, we were like it’s hot out here, we don't have water, we hope this doesn't take forever,” said Kenisha Reyes.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, came a man with popsicles.

“Our frowns immediately turned to smiles and we were like, what a nice man. There's not a lot of people who would stop to show compassion like that,” Reyes said.

That simple act made a sweet difference on a sweltering day and the team at the UNM Center for Digestive Disease nominated the “Popsicle Man” for Pay it 4ward.

Watch the video above to see the man’s reaction when he was given $400 dollars for his good deed.
