ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Albuquerque School of Excellence ended 2018 on a sour note.

On a cold night, pipes burst at the school

Three inches of water flooded the building, leaving behind $2 million worth of damage.

"I felt very distraught because this is a school and we are trying to help the kids be successful and when there's no building, in reality, you couldn't do anything," said the school’s principal, Dr. Ebubekir Orsun.

Dr. Orsou said he called the fire department so they could make sure the fire riser room was safe.

"When we called them, they were just here and they said ‘this is okay,’ and when they see the school was damaged, they bring squeegees and helped us evacuate the water. We didn't ask for that which was truly amazing,” he said.

The fire rescue team at Station 8 didn't have to help get the water out of the building, but they did and that's why Dr. Orsun wants to recognize the captain and his crew.

Dr. Orsou wanted to Pay it 4ward and give the crew $400, but they declined the money.

Watch the video above to see how Dr. Orsou still got to Pay it 4ward to an unsuspecting recipient.
